I created Mural Studio in 2003 with the intention of applying my fine art training and abundant imagination toward creating real environments for residential and commercial settings. Painting murals and creating fine art has become a fulfilling livelihood and I never tire of dreaming up amazing spaces for my clients.

There are so many ways a mural can transform a space. A lackluster garage wall can become a gorgeous garden backdrop for entertaining. Small spaces painted in trompe l'oeil style (meaning "to fool the eye") feel significantly larger and more spacious. Murals make beautiful additions to entryways, dining areas, kitchens and baths. And the murals I've created for children's rooms inspire and fascinate the little ones who reside within the painted walls.

I hope you'll be inspired by what you see here and will consider adding a Devon Holzwarth mural or piece of fine art to your space.

Devon Holzwarth, artist and designer

I was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in the Canal Zone of the Republic of Panama (an American expatriate community). I greatly attribute the style I've formed as an artist to the lush, colorful surroundings I had growing up in the tropics. In 1996 I left Panama for study in art and design at the Rhode Island School of Design. Study at RISD was intense and a real turning point in almost every aspect of who I was as an artist. For four years I was able to completely throw myself into drawing, painting, color theory - even glass-blowing. I graduated in 2000 with a BFA in textile design and additional study in painting and installation arts.

After graduation I left Providence and moved here to San Jose, CA. I began to get aquainted with the local art scene. I taught some classes in art, worked for a national children's magazine, and continued to paint and show my art locally and in some national shows. It was near the end of 2002 that the idea for a mural and fine art business really came to fruition. After painting a huge mural for the pre-school room at my church, I realized my next step was to create a mural and fine art business. Mural Studio has developed into a fun and exciting business and I'm thankful to be doing what I love.

In addition to Mural Studio, I've just launched Devon Industry; an online shop and gallery for my paintings and an assortment of hand-made products including felted scarves, flowers, and painted floorcloths. If you're interested in following my work and hearing about what I'm up to with my art, Devon Industry is where you'll find the information. I hope you'll visit me at www.devonindustry.com and check out what's in the shop!
